     Tang = Chinese influence, Tang Dynasty

     Soo = open hand      

     Do = the way of life or the path you choose

 

     Moo Duk Kwan = The School of Martial Virtue

     Moo = Martial, Military used to prevent conflict

     Duk = Virtue

     Kwan = School


5. Know what Ryu Pa means.

Ryu Pa means "lineage". This is our Tang Soo Do family tree. This is symbolized by a main river that has smaller rivers (tributaries) that branch off carrying water from the main source. The head of our lineage is Grand Master Hwang Kee. His knowledge is passed down like a river to our instructors which is then passed down to the students.
